Tech Spider:Which browser is the most energy efficient in Windows 10?
Since the ranking of software eaters battery modern browsers take if not the first, then one of the leaders, perhaps you as a user laptop or tablet running Windows 10 will be interesting to see which browser you can count on maximum operating time of your device on battery power While viewing the Internet.

Issue Digital Citizen performed very extensive testing 5 major browsers on 3 separate devices running Windows 10, and both new and used. We get quite interesting results.

Testing Methodology

To test the authors used three different devices, all running Windows 10:
  • ASUS ZenBook UX305F with a 13.3 "touch screen display (3200x1800 pixels), dual-core processor Intel Core M-5Y10 with a clock speed of 1.2 GHz, GPU Intel HD 5300, 8GB of DDR3 RAM and SSD-drive capacity of 256 GB SanDisk. Battery: Polymer 45 Whrs.

  • Microsoft Surface Pro 3 with 12 "touch screen display (2160 x 1440 pixels), a quad-core Intel Core i5-4300 clocked at 1.9 GHz and Intel HD graphics 4400, 8 GB of DDR3 RAM and the SSD-store Samsung's 256 GB. Battery: Lithium-ion 42 Whrs.
  • Toshiba Portege Z20 t- B with a 12.5 "touch screen display (1080p), dual-core processor Intel Core M-5Y71 with a clock speed of 1.20 GHz and Intel HD graphics 5300, 8 GB of DDR3 RAM and SSD-drive from Toshiba 256 GB. To test it was decided to use the Portege Z20t-B in tablet mode (without the plug-in keyboard). Battery: 3-elemetny 36 Whrs lithium polymer.
Except Surface Pro all these three new devices - used within a few days. Surface Pro 3 was the day for over a year.

All three devices were installed at the time of the most recent test version of major browsers: Firefox 41, Google Chrome 46, Opera 32, Microsoft Edge 20 and Internet Explorer 11. All browsers have been using the default settings, without any extensions or toolbars.

All computers used a balanced meal plan, but with the settings without turning off the display and switch to Sleep Mode to simulate surfing the web in a non-stop.

For the measurement of battery life, the authors used the test battery Peacekeeper.
Each browser was tested twice on each device. The authors then calculated the average time obtained using each browser on each device.

In this test, Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge proved to be the undisputed leader. By using these browsers managed to get almost one hour more compared to Google Chrome, which showed the worst result.

For comparison, use an instance of Surface Pro 3, which is already more than a year, but because its battery has a certain degree of wear. The new device can be better results. However, even here the browsers from Microsoft provided almost one extra hour of work compared with the underdog Google Chrome.

Results for Toshiba Portege Z20t-B

Toshiba Portege Z20t-B comes with a keyboard, which introduced an extra battery. The authors chose to test without a keyboard because of attrition two batteries would take too much time.
The following results were obtained when using only part of tablet Portege Z20t-B.
In this device, Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge again took the palm, but with a smaller margin on other browsers than the other two devices. Nevertheless, the results show that the use of IE and Edge gives up to half an hour longer battery life compared to Chrome.
