What are Data and information?

Data

A collection of raw and facts and figure are called data. The word raw means that the facts have not yet been processed to get their exact meaning .Data is collected from different source. If is collected for different purpose .data may consist of numbers, characters, symbols or picture etc. 

Data is the vital resource for any organization. A resource is anything that is available for an organization. Resources include buildings, vehicles, machinery, and employees. Data is considered a resource because it provides correct information for making proper and timely decision.it enables the management of the organization to utilize other resources effectively.it is not possible to make a good decision if data is not available in the desired format.

Types of data

Data may be of the following type:

• Numeric Data 
• Alphabetic Data
• Alphanumeric Data 
• Image Data 
• Audio Data 
• Video Data

Numeric Data

Numeric data consist of number digits from 0-9 like 10, 200, or -10.the numeric type of data may either the positive or negative.

Alphabetic Data

Alphabetic data consist of alphabetic letters from A-Z, a-z and blank space e.g. “Tech Spider ”   ,”programming” and “site ” etc.

Alphanumeric Data

Alphanumeric consist of numeric digit (0-9), letter (A-Z) and special character like %,*, @ + etc. Like “700%”,”googler700 and #007$.

Image Data

This type of data includes pictures, graphics, drawings, and charts. This type of data is more comprehensive.it can be transmitted as a set of the bit.

Audio Data

The sound is a representation of audio. Audio data includes music speech or any type of sound.

Video Data

The video is set to full-motion image played at high speed. A video is used to display action and movement.

Information:

The processed data called information. Information is an organized and processed in the form of data.it is more meaningful than data and used for making a decision. Data is used as input for processing and information is used as the output of this processing .this information can be used again in some other processing and will be considered as data in that processing.

For example, the marks of a student in the different subject are the data .to calculate the total marks, the marks of the different subject are used as data and total marks are the information. Now, to calculate the average marks of the student, this information will be processed again.in this processing, the information is used as data and average marks will be the information.
